The oldest song on the album, I wrote this after hearing a friend tell me she would whisper “I love you” in her sleeping boyfriend’s ear, to try to implant that love in him. A little insecure, but I loved the image and knew it would make a great song. The verses have her whispering in her lover’s ear, wondering if it’s being heard, imagining the effect; the chorus gives the common ecstatic phrase “I’m in heaven above” a new twist as it applies to the awake partner looming above the sleeping one. And there’s a dream section where the sleeper seems to be subconsciously “picking it up”. We can never turn our ears off, even asleep they are constantly picking up sounds. Otherwise, it’s a simple love song, a tribute to “real love” and the way I wanted to end this album.
lyrics
Oh God, I’m in Heaven above
Heaven – I’m in love
I don’t know if you’re listening to me – when I’m
Whispering softly in your ear
Saying ‘I love you’ while you’re sleeping, peacefully
Imagine that you’re dreaming & you hear something
Even if you don’t what it is
Wonder if my words are getting anywhere near…
Oh God, I’m in Heaven above
Heaven, I’m in love
Oh my God, even above
Heaven – it’s real love
And now I’m looking at you with admiration
Lying in an open field – while I’m
Staying awake so I can tell you what I feel
I’ll just whisper it softly in your ear, though I
Don’t know if you’re listening to me
Saying ‘I love you’ just above
Subconsciously -- oh oh oh oh; Oh my God
In Heaven – must be real love
Ah-ooh - I’m dreaming –
I heard you talking to me
Ah-ooh - I’m dreaming –
I’m picking it up –
I’m dreaming
Dreaming –
dreaming that it’s you...
...and I’m in Heaven above
Heaven, I’m in love
Oh my God, even above
Heaven – it’s real love
