about

The title song of the album: we named our floating home on the Pacific Serenity as soon as we moved in. It is an oasis from the rest of the world, a respite from work and daily concerns – every day I’d get home after 10 hours at a job and sit on our back deck letting it all drain away. The song itself came to me as a didgeridoo part in my head droning on the repetitive chorus line, “I’ll get back to you later”, which became a sort of mantra for me, said to the whole world from my floating paradise. But there’s also nostalgia for the past and my home again, friends you always think you’ll get back to sooner or later.

lyrics

Does anybody really know the way
We build ourselves up from the clay?
It can’t have happened in a single day
But ask me how, I’ll say
I’ll get back to you later;
I’ll get back to you, I’ll get back
I’ll get back to you later;
I’ll get back to you, I’ll get …

Back when I was a younger kind of man
A know-it-all without a plan
The answers oh so ready to my hand
I didn’t understand
I’ll get back to you later;
I’ll get back to you, I’ll get back
I’ll get back to you later;
I’ll get back to you, I’ll get … (x2)

Back up the Fraser River to my home
That little town I left to roam
Though time flows on and all of us have grown
Still miss the friends I’ve known
I’ll get back to you later;
I’ll get back to you, I’ll get back
I’ll get back to you later;
I’ll get back to you, I’ll get … (x2)

There must be something magic in the air
In how we found our comfort there
Serenity erasing all our cares
Strips the whole world bare…
I’ll get back to you later;
I’ll get back to you, I’ll get back
(repeat, repeat)
